Taking The Plunge

Another year almost over, wow. I remember when I was a kid and a year sounded like forever to me, now it's like I blink and it's a new year again.

I've decided to really live this year, do things that push my me out of my comfort zone and into getting more out of life. After all it goes by so quickly, it feels like five minutes ago I was 16 and now I'm an adult (well sort of...).

To start with I've started writing my bucket list, the list of things I want to do before I "kick the bucket". I'll post it soon, and I'm totally open to suggestions. And in the spirit of starting the New Year off with a bang and something that will get me way out of my comfort zone I've decided to take part in the Polar Bear Plunge in Jacksonport on New Year's day.

Maybe I'll love it, maybe I'll hate it, maybe I'll get frostbite in one of my toes, but life isn't going to last forever and I wasn't really using my pinky toe anyway.

Okay, so in the spirit of total honesty, i did not in fact take the plunge, I had a nasty head cold and the idea of getting sicker by jumping into freezing water just didn't seem very smart.  There's always next year, and i am determined to keep myself flu-free and jump in then.

Mister Obama's Neighborhood

I watch the news a lot, cable news mostly and I find myself growing increasingly frustrated by it. Pop culture is great, but if I wanted to hear about it I would watch Best Week Ever. I really can't bring myself to care about the new cast of dancing with the stars or Bradgelina. The real news is relegated to the bottom of the screen scroll while the "anchor" narrates the same mostly unimportant news over and over. This morning was another one of those mornings. Armed with hot coffee and the remote I flicked on the news. The president is going to address veterans. It was pretty standard fare, an interview with four veterans about what they think of they president, nothing earth shattering but at least it was close to what news looks like. What troubled me about this report was the voice over news guy kept saying "Mister Obama". Excuse me but the last time I checked he was elected to the highest office in the land. Say it with me now -President Obama. The man and the office demand this respect, and to speak of him like he is still a private citizen denotes disrespect, a lessening of the fact that Barack Obama was elected as commander in chief. I expect the people who's job it is to disperse news to the public to have the knowledge to call the President by his correct title when the find themselves covering something other than Micheal Jackson or John and Kate.
